Sugar cane prices have spiked by 75% in the past year, while juice stalls in Singapore hawker centres have been running short of stock. Why? Flooding on the western side of Peninsula Malaysia (in states like Negeri Sembilan) has devastated crops, while young Malaysians have little interest in taking over the business or working the plantations.

Singapore supplier Daily Fresh co-founder Ray Sng is hoping to ensure a steady supply of sugar cane by eventually starting its own sugar cane farm.
