UNESCO: Best Safeguarding Practices - 2016
Description: Over the past century, the Kodály concept of safeguarding traditional folk music has helped to promote, transmit and document practices in Hungary and assist countries abroad for similar purposes. Devised by Zoltán Kodály and supported by the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, it advocates: making folk music accessible; encouraging its everyday use; and researching, documenting and teaching it. Used in schools since 1945, it has also been applied by culture institutes to document the music, export the concept and inspire artists.
