Claude Debussy´s “Clair de lune” (Moonlight), 1890, is a pre-impressionistic piece, part of “Suite bergamasque”, published 1905. Clair de lune (Moonlight) is the 3. movement of Suite bergamasque, composed by Claude Debussy in 1890, a piano depiction of a Paul Verlaine poem, but Claude Debussy didnt finish and publish the piece and suite until 1905. Claude Debussy´s piece Clair de lune (Moonlight) is one of the most famous pieces for piano, and is know to be one of the most beautiful and loved pieces of music of all time.
About Debussy and the impressionism:
The french composer Claude Debussy (1862-1918) created the musical impressionism, i.e. pictures to be “seen” with the ears, not naturalistic pictures, but impressions, ideas, memories of things earlier seen.
Embracing nontraditional scales (pentatonic) and tonal structures, Claude Debussy is one of the most highly regarded composers of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
