Researchers have released how statistics indicate that cement emits 5% of the world’s total greenhouse gas. Now they have discovered that demolished buildings absorb those greenhouse gases back through a process called carbonation. Carbonation absorbs and transforms CO2 into several different chemicals. Water is one of them. Research shows that between the years of 1930 and 2013 cement absorbed 43% of the carbon emitted during carbonation. Scientists are excited about these findings, because they can be used to reduce the world’s carbon footprint.
