Park Young-soo is one of two veteran former prosecutors nominated by opposition parties. A parliamentary special committee is also probing government departments accused of working under the influence of Park and her close friend Choi Soon-sil. Lawmakers postponed an impeachment vote against the president by at least a week, after Park offered to step down early. The opposition needs a minimum of 28 votes from Park’s New Frontier Party to pass the impeachment bill. She has been accused of allowing her friend to manipulate power from behind the scenes. The scandal has sparked mass nationwide rallies calling for her resignation. Labor unions held a new mass rally in the capital Seoul on Wednesday.
