How Long Does It Take To Build Muscle?
http://www.SeanNal.com/articles/training/how-long-does-it-take-to-build-muscle.php

If you've made the decision to start a muscle building program and begin the task of transforming your body, you're probably asking yourself the standard beginner question, "how long does it take to build muscle?"

For example, how much muscle can you gain in 1 week, 1 month or 1 year?

Here's the truth: worrying about a specific muscle growth rate is really just a waste of your time and effort. There are a few reasons for this...

"How fast can you gain muscle?" - 3 Reasons Why It Doesn't Matter:

1) Genetics play a huge role in the muscle building process and everyone will make their gains at differing rates. Genetics are completely out of your control and so this is not even worth worrying about.

2) Experience level largely determines how quickly or slowly you'll build muscle. Complete beginners will make their gains a lot faster than an intermediate, and an intermediate will make their gains a lot faster than an advanced lifter.

3) If your ultimate goal is to change your appearance, then it really doesn't matter how much specific muscle you gain in terms of pounds; what matters is how it looks on you. 15 pounds of muscle on a short 5'6 frame will look a lot different than 15 pounds of muscle on a 6'4 lanky frame.

So, asking "how long does it take to build muscle" might satisfy your curiosity, but it really has no practical relevance to your program as a whole. Any muscle building rate given will just be an estimate (0.25 - 0.50 pounds of muscle per week is probably accurate for most people if you really want to know) and you'll have no way of knowing what that actual muscle will look like on your frame until you've gained it.
