On the 25th anniversary of the demolition of the Babri Masjid, The Wire organised a talk by journalists to look back at the 6 December 1992 event that changed India forever.
Activist and documentary filmmaker, Ruchira Gupta was 24-years-old at the time and reporting for Business India from Ayodhya for what most journalists thought was to be a symbolic kar seva by the VHP and Bajrang Dal at what they believe is the ‘Ram Janmabhoomi’.
But when Ruchira saw the first dome come down just after noon, she says she had to go see what was happening on ground instead of relying on secondary sources.
