Opening in early 2018, the Molecular Sciences Research Hub at the Imperial College White City campus will be the new home for the Department of Chemistry. Reflecting Chemistry's vision for an outward-facing chemical and molecular science, the Department's ambition is that the Molecular Sciences Research Hub will serve both as a local anchor and an international beacon, redefining the very nature of a university research building.
The building will facilitate seamless collaboration across the molecular sciences, where scientific discovery is not constrained by research spaces designed for the needs of twentieth-century sciences. Its radical modular design creates a fluid research environment, the static laboratories of the past replaced with new reconfigurable spaces, designed to adapt to changing research needs. The aim is to create a building where the community can “dial up” research and teaching space in response to emerging priorities and new collaborations.
It will co-locate world-leading scientists with entrepreneurs, partners from industry, SMEs including alumni-led spin-out vehicles, government agencies, policy units and public outreach stakeholders - an innovation pipeline like no other, all under one roof.
